The ugly side of blogging
For the past few weeks, I’ve been enjoying Mimi in NY, a frank, sometimes lurid look at the life of a single girl in NYC. That is until she posted candid snapshots of strangers she met at the Hudson Bar accompanied by cruel, judgemental observations about their looks, weight, and intelligence. If these people were her friends, I might just rely on social darwinism, but I was shocked to discover that she doesn’t even know these people. She chatted them up, took their pictures and posted them to her blog.
Why do I care? Because Mimi has been nominated for a bloggie and I think it’s important to point out the difference between responsible, personal blogging and cruel slander.

I think it’s important to point out the difference between ’sense of humor’ and ‘humorless, self important prick’. Wanna try make the distinction?

I think that taking pictures of random people, posting them to your blog, and then ridiculing them isn’t funny. If that makes me humorless, I can accept that.
I can certainly accept that I’m a self-important prick.

God, mimi, do you constantly google/rati yourself or what? Wait… I know the answer to that question.
I dunno about the bloggies, but you definitely have a lock on attention whore of the year.

I don’t know, I think she is hot. So she’s a bitch. If either of these guys scored a BJ or something it would be worth it. If not, well too bad. Thats life in the big city. They are grown men and I’m sure they will survive. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that just because you spend so much time absorbed in blogging every silly detail of your life that people really care what you say. What the hell kind of award is a “Bloggie” anyway? I’m sure the judges of this prestigious award will take Mimi’s actions into consideration. If not, there isn’t a God heaven and the Bloggies will be forever tainted.

Thanks for your comment, Paul. Don’t worry, I’m not crying myself to sleep about mimi or the bloggies and I have never been under the assumption that anyone cares what I say.
