The curse of good TV

I’ve been getting into Veronica Mars this season. It’s a worthy successor to the “High School is Hell” idea started by Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Like Buffy, it’s well written and uses genre and character development to tell a good story. No vampires or demons in sight, but that’s probably for the best.

Unfortunately, like My So Called Life, Freaks and Geeks, Angel, Firefly, and Arrested Development (ashamed to say, I never watched that show), Veronica Mars looks like it’s heading for cancellation. I haven’t been watching long enough to throw the kind of temper tantrum I threw when Firefly got the axe, but it would be a shame nonetheless.

Outside of HBO and Battlestar Galactica, there doesn’t seem to be room for quirky, well-written television shows to grow and find an audience. Veronica Mars (and Firefly) fans need an internet distribution model, stat!
