Brick

The marriage of high school and classic film noir seemed like the perfect match to me, so I was really excited to see Brick. I’m happy to say that I wasn’t disappointed. Turns out that the hard-boiled melodrama of Raymond Chandler is the most natural thing in the world to put in the mouths of brooding California public school students.

Brick is very occasionally over-stylized and pretentious, but mostly it’s the perfect crime film and I really enjoyed it. Lucas Haas and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are great and I can’t wait to see what the director Rian Johnson makes next.

I need to make myself go to Monday movies more often.

    Word. Everything you said.

Hey, I was at the Monday screening, too. Were we having the same experience in parallel lives?

Were the people behind you talking too loud, too? And were you disappointed by the Whoppers?

No, but the fella down the aisle was a mouth-breather and the popcorn was mighty stale. Doesn’t matter though; The movie was too good to let it bother me.

Aargh, it’s no longer in the theaters here! I nearly saw it a few weeks back (while the husband was at home on little man duty) but I decided to turn in early that night. I am such a fool. Guess I’ll have to wait for the DVD release, and go see X3 instead. Sigh.

For some reason, it stuck around for awhile in Seattle. Word of mouth I guess. It’s funny Sharyn, I only saw Brick because I missed the 7 o’clock showing of Mission Impossible 3 (cringe.) I think it was my unconcious’ way of telling myself to see fewer crappy popcorn movies.
