The Stranger’s Film Reviews

The following is excerpted from this week’s Letters Page in The Stranger:

"It’s not just that I disagree with the <film> critics, even though I do. It’s that nobody writing for your newspaper seems to be out to say who might enjoy the film and who should steer clear. Nope, instead we get idiots who seem to think they’re writing blog posts rather than a fucking film column that normal people actually have to read."

Fuckin-A Bubba! You tell ‘em. While I have a lot of affection for the Stranger, this guy is dead right. I’m always confused that the Stranger film staff constantly chooses to review big-budget popcorn films, only to shit all over them at every opportunity.

It’s just another example of the "cool kids" mentality that defines the Stranger’s arts and culture sections. While their coverage of local politics, food, and books are usually great, the arts reporting in the paper is frequently incestuous, snarky, and not terribly useful.
