Vile Bumbershoot
Bumbershoot is usually an evil, frenzied experience filled with enough loud noises, bad smells, and crowds to make the most outgoing person into a sweaty, hyperventilating agoraphobe. This year however, Mrs. Astronaut, myself and some of our amigos were going to break down and subject ourselves to the horrors of Seattle Center in order to enjoy the genius that is DEVO…
…but then they cancelled. Argh! "Fuck Bumbershoot!", we cried in unison, dreaming of a Labor Day Weekend spent alone in our houses, peering out the windows and yelling at kids to get off our lawns. But then a ghostly, hippie temptress cried out to me, whispering in dulcet tones about the The New York Dolls, The Decemberists, Federico Aubele, Aqueduct, and the 826 Seattle Benefit with Dave Eggers, Sarah Vowell, and Daniel Handler.
Oh, vile succubus Bumbershoot! Why must you tempt me?
Update! Now they’ve also added Elvis Costello and Iggy and the Stooges! Damn you, Bumbershoot! Damn you to hell!
