Someone Comes To Town, Someone Leaves Town

Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves TownAfter months spent in my book pile, Cory Doctorow’s Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town finally found it’s way to the top of the stack and I just finished up last night. I think it’s enough to say that I loved the book and found it sad, scary, and emotionally affecting.

I’m going to resist the urge to put it into a specific genre or give a quick synopsis because it transcends all of that bullshit and I spend too much time thinking about books in terms of sections at my local bookstore. Readers who don’t go for science fiction or fantasy should know that it does require some suspension of disbelief, but if you loved Life of Pi and Oryx and Crake, you should be getting good at that by now.

It’s strange, surreal, grisly at times, and totally original, although I would love to re-read Katherine Dunn’s Geek Love as a companion piece sometime soon. My favorite Doctorow so far and one of the best books I’ve read in a awhile.
