Pop Astronaut

Greetings Program!

TronEmotional strain always makes me regress and turn to childhood favorites for comfort. Feeling like a kid is mostly an internal condition for me; I still look like in-control, adult guy on the outside…unless I’m having a fight with my mom, in which case I start acting like my messy, petulant, annoying 14 year old self. Trust me, it isn’t pretty. Thankfully, my mom and I are doing pretty well at the moment, but there’s still a lot of flux in my life, so I’ve found myself turning to Tron.

If you didn’t grow up in the 80’s and anthropomorphize your Apple II plus, you may be rolling your eyes right now, but don’t be so quick to judge. Sure this story of little people living inside of a computer network is kind of hokey and the technical jargon (if you can call it that) is antiquated, but if you look at it closely, Tron is decent kids adventure story and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

What childhood guilty pleasures soothe your aching heart?

That’s why you were wanting to go home and watch it last night. Did you do it or did you have to take care of slightly inebriated Hick?

My childhood comfort that I sometimes go back to is reading old Dragonlance novels or drawing spaceships while listening to Duran Duran. Damn. Now I’ll never get a date….who am I kidding, I wasn’t going to get one anyway.

Were they crazy, Nagel-inspired, 1980’s spaceships? I think D&D, drawing spaceships, and Duran Duran is something we’ll always share Jeff.

  3. jeff Says:

More than likely and I think that we’re better people for it. Mine were mostly spaceships with lots of flame coming out of their rockets. Everything else was just gravy. I guess what I’m saying is I have a fascination with fire and things that go fast. Like rockets.

when i feel pokey and out of sorts i re-read harriet the spy. i love that book. that, and i watch old episodes of star trek and the twilight zone. those were my favorite shows as a kid, i didn’t see a lot of movies. mac and cheese is also a wonderful panacea; how can you be fussy when there is cheesy noodley goodness in front of you?

  5. Astronaut Says:

Agreed. Mac & Cheese is always an effective salve. Mmmmm, cheesy, noodley goodness.

Two words: Grease 2. Wait, is the numeral 2a word? Oh, and Jeff, thanks for saying “slightly inebriated.” Best euphamism I’ve seen today.
