Ha! Take that, Squid Skeptics!

Calamari for everyone!Jules Verne’s 20,00 Leagues Under The Sea occupies a special corner of my childhood imagination. I love the idea of gigantic monsters sliding through the deep, far from human eyes and I’ve been known to hold forth on the existence of giant squid after a few flagons of grog. These stories are usually greeted with disbelief and comments like “Joe, you shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet.” But now mateys, here is documented proof from the uber-reliable pages of National Geographic!

Japanese scientists found this 25 foot monster squid in the North Pacific and managed to snap quite a few lovely pictures.

Hey! The North Pacific! Maybe she could slide over the Puget Sound, wrestle with some submarines and say hello. That would teach those doubting landlubbers a thing or two.

Now if I could just find that Fark article about the evil, brain-eating cephalopods of New England. Grumble, grumble…I’m not crazy, I’m not!
