Finally! KEXP, the best radio station in the country, has a podcast! This is certainly going on my iPod for the bus ride home this evening.

Rude Mechanicals: Art Meets Machine!

Something new and exciting for my calendar! Next month, the Seattle Art Museum is hosting Rude Mechanicals: Art Meets Machine!, a presentation hosted by artists who confront technology in their work. Survival Research Labs‘ Karen Marcelo would make this a must-see all by her lonesome, but the rest of the lineup looks interesting too.

Femtasia

Drawn! is my favorite illustration/comic/art blog by far. For artists and those that love them, there’s so much inspiration here it makes the head swim.
Today, Drawn features Femtasia, the online portfolio of Dutch illustrator Femke Hiemstra. His work is so beautiful, it makes my eyes hurt, but in a good way.

Roald Dahl

The New Yorker has a great article about Roald Dahl, writer of Charlie and the Chocolate factory, James & the Giant Peach,The Witches, Mathilda, etc. (as if you didn’t know).
I’ve been crazy for Roald Dahl since I was a kid (especially James and the Giant Peach), but I’m not too bothered by the uglier […]

7 Words You Cant Say in Kindergarten

I’ve had conversations with a variety of friends about bad language and attempts to keep their colorful sailor’s vocabulary from rubbing off on their kids.
It looks like New Zealander Nathan Torkington has taken the path of least resistance and shot a video of his kids reciting George Carlin’s "7 Words You Can’t Say on Television." […]

The Common Desk

Feeling stuck in a creative rut? The Common Desk can help. Not so much an instructional video on creating the perfect work space as a meditation on the creative process, The Common Desk is a pastiche of amazing commercials, motion graphics, and mash-up art that describes the creative process better than anything I’ve […]

Robot Wisdom

If you haven’t checked back in awhile, Jorn Barger’s Robot Wisdom Weblog is back in full swing. Featuring great links with little muss or fuss, Robot Wisdom always has a gem or two that you can’t find anywhere else. If you like the site, I’d encourage you to drop a buck or two […]

Least Wanted

Mug shots have always fascinated me. There’s no fake smiles or forced expressions (usually) and I like to think we show more of our real selves when we’re in really bad situations. Least Wanted is an ongoing Flickr stream of mug shots and forensic photos from mostly the 1920’s and 30’s featuring carnies, […]

The Passing Out Game

Police suspect that a young boy found dead in Idaho may have died while playing "The Passing Out Game". In case you were never stupid enough to attempt it, the passing out game involves hyperventilating and having a friend pull up quickly on your diaphragm to make you pass out.
When I was about 13, […]

Press Secretary Hammered Over Karl Rove

Finally, the White House Press Corps starts doing their job!
White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan got hammered in the Briefing Room this morning over allegations that Karl Rove was responsible for exposing an undercover CIA agent’s identity. It’s interesting that the Bush Administration’s stonewalling tactics start to break down when Rove himself is […]

James Kochalka is a Genius

I picked up a copy of James Kochalka’s new comic Super F*ckers at Midtown Comics on my way out of NYC on Sunday and proceeded to scare the shit out of my fellow plane passengers with little snorts and giggles all the way to Seattle.
Super F*ckers is a riff on comic superhero teams and features […]

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are my new favorite band. I know I’m fond of saying that, but you have no idea! I can’t stand writing record reviews because the hyperbole and cliches that come out are frankly painful, but if I wasn’t feeling quite so self-conscious, I might say that Clap Hands […]

Images from NYC

I took some snapshots while in New York, not as many as I’d have liked but enough to evoke good memories. This one is from Prince Street in Soho around 7 p.m.
It’s strange to be back. It’s been a long time since I’ve been travelling on my own, much less in such a […]

…I’m leaving today

Well, maybe not today, but tomorrow anyway. This is my last full day in New York after a great conference (details to come) and lots of quality time with friends, old and new. I’m supposed to be in Hoboken at Vloggercue with Bre, but needed some down time after an overwhelming week. […]
