I found this post on Intent Blog really inspiring. Bharat Chopra (Deepak’s son?) talks about writing a business plan for his life. I’ve been feeling more ready to move forward with some plans of my own and this was just the validation I was looking for. Snip:
"Aim high. Aim @#$%ing high. […]

With the news that the University of California is being sued by religious schools over creationism, I have finally reached the end of my last dangling nerve. I know that not all Christians have a problem reconciling that you can believe in god AND respect science, but the fundamentalist idiots spreading the rhetoric of […]

When I was in elementary and middle school, our lunchtime D&D games at the playground sundial were the subject of ridicule by our classmates. Now, modern day nerds can retreat to the safety of their local library as Wizards of the Coast presents librarians with the tools to set up Role Playing Game programs, […]

Did anyone else watch the Video Music Awards last night and find themselves a little disgusted with the state of popular music? After an over-the-top, but great Green Day performance at the start of the show, Diddy, né Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Sean Combs, ad naseum presided over a stupid, self-congratulatory display of excess […]

After months spent in my book pile, Cory Doctorow’s Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town finally found it’s way to the top of the stack and I just finished up last night. I think it’s enough to say that I loved the book and found it sad, scary, and emotionally affecting.
I’m going to […]

The rain came back to Seattle tonight, falling in hard, cold, sheets. It destroyed the canopy that used to shelter our backyard oasis. The canopy was wrecked but my foolhardy wife ran out into the yard and disassembled it piece by piece, fighting with the water and bent aluminum, getting soaked. […]

"Woo" is a strange little word, used to describe crystals, astrology, transcendental meditation, past life regression therapy, cleansing enemas, or any other hokey, marginal spiritual belief perpetuated by wild-eyed, crazy aunts and eccentric roommates the world over.
I went to a notoriously flaky liberal arts college and was so overwhelmed with drum circles, trustafarians, and […]

The Seattle P-I has an article up about last week’s Seattle Weblogger Meetup. It’s mostly a puff piece, but it’s nice to see these folks get some ink in a local paper. I’ve always meant to to one of these, but I I’ve been busy and antisocial lately.
I don’t agree with the idea […]

Mrs. Astronaut and I would really like to buy a house, but since we live in Seattle and don’t have a goblin hoard of gold in the basement, our outlook looks pretty grim. While it’s tempting, I’m not going to bitch and moan about not being able to buy in my hometown. I’m […]

I’ve been trying out Pandora this afternoon and am so impressed. Pandora is an "web radio" application that takes a starting point, selected by you; compares it to other music based on syncopation, style, and other musical qualities and then creates a custom station based on your preferences. Most important, it relies […]

After reading Kottke’s post about Technorati, I went back and checked how my tags were doing. They haven’t been showing up in Technorati tag results since…well they’ve never worked actually. I’m almost ready to give up on tagging posts (for Technorati anyway), but love the idea of Technorati enough to give them a […]

Keith over at Old Haunts has a great thing going. Nostalgic photos of Halloweens past live alongside 1970’s comic book ads and anecdotes about 60’s and 70’s childhood obsessions. The best part is the childhood halloween photos.
There’s something adorable and creepy about little kids in Halloween costumes. It reminds me of […]

This has been a strange week. Usually, if I have a bad week it’s because of the goings-on inside my neurotic brain and has to do with things that I can control. Why aren’t you eating better? Don’t you think you should stop smoking soon, cancer boy? What does it mean […]

Celebrity and musician blogs tend to peter out pretty quickly. I hope that’s not the case with Dead Air Space, the brand-new Radiohead blog. I’m not ashamed to say that I’m obsessed with Thom and co. Obsessed in a way I haven’t been since I put Wham posters up on my wall […]
