So I have the dreaded sleep apnea. I slept last night wearing a contraption that looks like a cross between the Alien facehugger and a catcher’s mask. It’s not too uncomfortable, but isn’t my favorite fashion accessory by any means. It’s also shoots a cold jet of air down my throat all […]

Steve Jobs just announced a new Apple laptop at Macworld San Francisco. The Powerbook brand is gone, replaced by the MacBook Pro. Intel processors, 15.4″ display, shipping in February. While my credit card is burning through my jeans as we speak, I think I’ll wait for a 12 or 13″ model. 1st […]

It’s been a happy, well-rounded three-day weekend with plenty of couch time and the obligatory birthday debauchery.
I’m continuing my ghost story jag by reading Mary Roach’s Spook, a scientific exploration of the afterlife and follow-up to the amazing Stiff. So far it’s interesting, but lacks some of the icky thrill that made her last book […]

There’s a French trailer out for Guillermo Del Toro’s new film Pan’s Labyrinth and it looks good and creepy.

Today’s my brithday and the best thing about it will be celebrating with friends tonight. If you’re curious, I’m turning 34 which is an in-between kind of age. 34. Meh.
The girl from Hickopolis is also celebrating her birthday today, so be sure to send her good wishes. She’s turning 30.
Happy birthday, you!

…now I need to be sure it doesn’t consume my life.
I bought a Nintendo DS over the break and I’m seriously hooked. Mario Kart DS is surprisingly deep and super fun and Animal Crossing: Wild World…um…let’s just say I can’t believe I’ve lived this long without it. I missed out on AC on the […]

Even though I’m almost 34 years old, I’ve never bought new furniture.
For my entire adult life, a new couch meant a trip to the thrift store or inheriting some crazy, 1970’s behemoth from family or friends. Our current couch is big, ugly, and horribly uncomfortable and we’ve been gazing longingly at catalogs for […]

I’m a sucker for ghost stories, mostly because, of all the different brands of fantastic fiction, they feel the most real. Many people are haunted and whether you see ghosts as literal or metaphorical, the dead really do follow us around.
I can’t remember the last time I tore through a novel as happily or […]
